Remembrance Day in Australia isn't a public holiday though. We are suppose to pause for a minute on the on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.
So yeah, I do remember being a Pommie to do that each November. I remember the stories my mother told me about how her father had his lungs affected by Mustard Gas in the first world war where he drove a team of horses around the battlefield to move guns and ambulance wagons. How he died a miserable death at home in bed from the damage to his lungs.
