For this first time i read this section onHC. We had a business which we sold a month ago. We had no choice as to keep it open or not. Not only did we tried to minimise our weekly wages bill we tried to reduce uor cost on all fronts. As a small business owner we employed +- 4 junior temp staff. We previously tried senior staff bust even that didnt improve the situation. All services we had to pay to keep the business running increased in price. All on account of "carbon tax" we never received any compentation as promissed by government. The annual rent increases was a further straw on the camels back. To sell this non profittable business took more than a year and only after the selling price was reduced by 66% did we manage to get rid of it. One major cost to the business was theft by staff. The very staff who where stealing from the business now without a job as the new owner employed their own staff. The result we decided to retire prematurely and with no income the government will receive no taxes from us.

There is no easy way out as we heard the at least 60% of all small businesses suffer to keep their front doors open. It seems that the Aussie dream of having your own business and create employment is just a mist or morning dew on the lawn!!
