A gas led recovery as promised by the liberals were only ever words because they like labour follow the American/western lead on energy policy, even if that policy is designed to hurt western economies while leaving Asian economies free to pollute at will because they are "developing".
The only reason now labour want to fire up the aging coal power stations is because there would be a backlash if they didn't. At best renewables are part of a hybrid system with fossil fuels. If renewables of solar and wind become the base load power and they don't invest in coal or gas power for a complete backup then we can expect power outages and power crises as the future norm.
