Hi Crew this was a post GMT2 posted I thought it was quite apt as it was just what I was thinking so thought I would re post it because it just makes sense, rather than all this other crap that is being posted atm.


That statement, on its own, is alarming. And particularly from the PM. It *should* have been prefaced with "in my opinion" or "my personal view is".

Rather unusually, we now have a PM and the leader of the opposition in fierce agreement on an issue that runs counter to the Government's own plan for a gas-led recovery.

As others have pointed out, you cant have a gas-led recovery without gas.

And I would think that most observers would note here that ScoMo and each-way Albo have taken an opposing position which supports only the interests of a small minority in their home state. That is not in the national interest and it should be vocally called out for what it is. Why should NSW be free from offshore drilling when it is acceptable everywhere else ?

ScoMo is entitled to have an opinion on it and it's hardly surprising that a Liberal party member wants to "protect the amenity" of the Northern beaches - but that is not his remit here as PM.

I think the more telling comment from ScoMo in that interview was that regional Australia should not have to continue to do all of the heavy lifting.

This is by no means a foregone conclusion for approval. But ScoMo is going to have to have a very solid argument on:

- why NSW should be immune to offshore drilling
- where additional Gas supply is going to come from when the ACCC and AEMO are forecasting a shortfall
- why the government would not be extending an existing permit for gas exploration whilst we pursue a gas-led recovery of their own making
- why his personal opinion overrules the recommendations and needs outlined by various government agencies
- why he is siding with the opposition leader in direct opposition to his own party

Actually not surprised here. ScoMo is notorious for fumbling simple things in public.
