    To be fair @RichAnne, the same scenario applies to unused mines that are not rehabilitated. They are often left not even maintained, ownership transferred to shell companies.
    For example, about a decade ago there were over 800 non-working gold mines just in Qld. The tailings dams holding cyanide etc were often left un-maintained. In one notable example, the tailings dam burst during a flood and killed everything downstream but there was noone to hold accountable.
    I'm not saying your scenario re defunk wind turbines is not true but many companies tend to use similar strategies to maximise profits at the expense of communities. Thankfully commercial magnet recycling projects are coming along which will take care of some of the old turbines.
    Thanks for your information re the wind turbines, because we all need to be alert to such practices in any of our industries and pressure the government to regulate so it rarely happens.
