Kind of nuts all of this hoo-ha is over a simple exploratory drill hole 26km out at sea.

Upon a potential approval of the permit, surely any public concerns or outcry will be alleviated by the Minister responsible and Advent explaining it as just that - an exploratory well drill.

David Breeze seems pretty adamant on drilling Seablue-1; and I’m sure the government, our regional export partners, and all the major resource companies in Australia would be keen on knowing what’s down there.

While I personally find it hard to believe Advent will be pumping and selling any potential gas found (more than happy to be wrong on this point)- I am far more confident they’ll be able to drill and sell the permit upon any confirmation of its content.

D.Breeze has indicated multiple times now that drilling would begin swiftly after an approval, giving little time for opposition groups to cause a big enough political storm over it before it’s completed and the discussion has moved on the what to do next.

Against returning to an endless court-case cycle, surely the most favourable solution for all is to approve the drill, manage the optics of it, and shift the point of conflict towards what should be done following a successful drill.
