There is the technology available today to bring a gas line onshore via a tunnel under the 5.5km "NSW Coastal Waters" and pop up onshore. It was done for Chevron on the Wheatstone project in Onslow WA to avoid disturbing the turtle nesting areas.
"The total weight of the line pipe required is about 200,000 tonnes. The trunkline crosses the shore via a micro- tunnel. This involved drilling a horizontal tunnel about 3m in diametre for 2km under the shore crossing to avoid coastline disturbance."
There is the technology available today to bring a gas line...
