The parliamentary inquiry is investigating whether WA’s domestic gas reservation policy is fit for purpose amid concerns over how much gas major producers are selling domestically compared to the more lucrative international market.

Last month the inquiry’s interim report found the policy was not robust enough to ensure major offshore gas producers delivered adequate supply to the local market.

The report revealed a major shortfall in the amount of gas being sold into the local market, with large producers delivering about 8 per cent locally, well short of the 15 per cent domestic reservation requirement.
