One of my most important & successful decisions from 1998 to 2006 was to place people in positions who did well & benefited from making the right call but were stung hard for making the wrong call.
Then the Sun comes up & you start again.

It Really was their Gig. We discussed the options & I let them make the decision if it affected their space.
They Owned the responsibility & I'm glad I did it.
It was unpopular from the levels above me for a while....
But we over achieved by our continued success over everyone else in our space who were controlled from the Top.
