Thank you for your email of 25th March 2024 regarding Petroleum Exploration Permit 11 (PEP-11).

As you will be aware, the Federal Court overturned the previous decision to refuse PEP-11 in February 2023. As a result, the application has been remitted back to the Commonwealth and State Joint Authority to be redetermined. Any decision will follow a comprehensive assessment of the applications by the Joint Authority.

As the applications are currently before the Joint Authority for assessment, I am unable to comment further on the matter at this time, including on specific factors that may affect decision-making timeframes. I can assure you that this matter is progressing.

I would probe a bit further.

Something along the lines of "It was my understanding that NOPTA completed the assessing and has passed on the recommendation of that assessment to you? Can you clarify what further assessment is taking place and why it is taking over 100 days to complete?"
