Madg this is the thing I cannot get my head around.

Surely the pro gas narrative and PEP11 approval go hand in hand. Not sure what the hold up could possibly be. I refuse to accept that a handful of protestors and some over zealous independent politicians are swaying the government's decision but having said that I have absolutely no idea what has caused the delay.

You are spot on in saying not only should they be approving PEP11 but also promoting it as the potential saviour to the current crisis. A half reasonable marketing team could surely extol the virtues of the drill to off set any negative sentiment around.

I cannot imagine it will cost electoral seats as the previous government denied the permit and they all lost not only their seats but government as well so history says denying the permit is no certainty to retain anything.

So after all that I come to the conclusion that I have no idea why we wait but I absolutely know that we continue to wait.

Lets hope not too much longer.
