You know as well as I do that the term "imported" in this sense and contexts means from another country.

It would be not accurate to say, for example, that gas is being exported from WA to NSW.

However, if this gas went to say, Singapore or Japan and then shipped back to NSW. It would then be accurate that the gas was imported from Singapore etc.

"Hence, the gas was exported to Singapore, from WA, whereby the gas was then exported back to NSW"
