Simple economics - Supply > Demand = Lower prices. As such, a boost in gas supply should result in lower gas costs.

Whilst your post acts to taunt the Coalition's future energy policies, you can't admit that things have exactly been rosy under your government's watch either. We as citizens have already experienced a similar level of increases in energy bills over the last few years - one of many contributors to the cost of living crisis we are currently facing.

With gas prices spiralling out of control predominantly brought on by looming gas shortages, reaching levels that even AEMO are issuing threat warnings for, obviously something needs to change, yesterday!

We have always been a lucky country to have gas in abundance. We shouldn't be in this current predicament.

Your party's Australia's Future Gas Strategy clearly states the need for new sources of gas supply as they are needed to meet demand during the economy-wide transition.

You have been gifted an opportunity which could have a massive impact on the current situation, by being given the power as the delegated minister of the Joint Authority to approve the PEP-11 exploration permit. The PEP-11 project has been stalled for far too long by political shenanigans - time wasted which could have been used to explore the potential of this gas field.

The current trajectory of gas shortages is making it increasingly necessary to allow Advent Energy to conduct their exploratory drill and investigate the potential of PEP-11. If what is touted about PEP-11 comes to fruition - a 5Tcf gas reserve providing 20-30 years of gas - then surely this project is potentially the saviour to the east coast gas supply issues.

The New South Wales government has made their intentions very clear regarding PEP-11 with their passing of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Seabed Mining and Exploration) Bill 2024 back in March. If they haven't yet passed on their decision on PEP-11 as member of the Joint Authority, then that is simply a disgrace.

Please Minister Husic, the time has come to expedite a decision on PEP-11. Let's find out what PEP-11 has to offer. The economy needs this, industry needs this, we need this!
