Here's an extract from a 9NEWS article published 9 May 2024 and herein it highlights what I beleive would be the main hurdles facing Ed Husic if he were to consider rejecting PEP-11:

    • it would contradict previously stated goals detailed within the Government's own Future Gas Strategy.
    • it would contradict PM Anthony Albanese's latest statement that more gas supply is required.
    • it would contradict the warnings from AEMO of an East Coast gas shortfall that needs to be addressed through additional supply.
    • it would contradict his own Ministerial portfolio's objectives as the Minister for Industry and Science to make decisions that support manufacturing and minerals processing of which gas is a necessary component, in a state where his own constituents now face the prospect of business shut-downs and production cuts.
    • it could potentially lead to court costs and a large compensation payout to Advent and its shareholders.

There are probably many more points that could be added here, but I think that probably suffices for now to get my main points across.
