For a practical example of this have a look at the Bass Strait Oil/Gas fields
off the Victorian coast south of Lakes Entrance.

There are a number of production wells barely visible to the naked eye on a clear
    day from an elevated position
They are like a dot on the horizon
and not visible at all if there is a slight haze.

The offshore Bass Strait field has been supplying gas & oil to Victoria for more than 50 years
There has NEVER been a problem, visually or environmentally.
And they are linked up with undersea pipes which bring the production onshore at Longford.
The large Lakes Entrance commercial fishing fleet operate in the ovicinity with no detrimental effects on the fishing grounds.
Whales migrate up and down the coast without problems.
Surfers need to be close to shore where the waves build up so this is not an issue.
Ive posted google information before on how far you can see to the horizon at sea
allowing for the curvature of the earth.

    Here is a google summary
A person can see About 5 kilometres
For instance, in standard atmospheric conditions, for an observer with eye level above sea level by 1.70 metres (5 ft 7 in), the horizon is at a distance of about 5 kilometres(3.1 mi).
Anything beyond this distance in not visible.

But a taller structure, a ship for example, would be visible as a speck.
And a few km further out again due to the earths curvature the ship would not be visible.
A person on a cliff or tower, due to the elevation, can obviously see further.
But people on the beach or surfers in the water can only see objects 5KM or less away.

There is more detailed information with the maths and angles explained on google
    if you care to look.
    But sufficient to say

All the claims that this will cause “visual pollution”
    is just nonsense
Or to put it plainly ....
IT IS A GIANT BEAT UP AND A PACK OF LIES!
