"whereas the cost to store emission from the natural-gas-fired plants ranges from approximately $80 to $90." (per ton) ... and that is US dollars, so not even close to being profitable. (even at $62/ton for a carbon price, it still doesn't look profitable to me).
Justadabble said this is based on an "unregulated market". But when you read the actual article, it is talking about the total cost of carbon capture and storage. And we did talk about the Australian Carbon Credit units (regulated) as seen below in Taylorstjames' post:
Once again, not even close to being profitable.
There are a bunch of things you could say about it to try to get it closer to being profitable like 1) BPH is potentially only doing the "storage" part. (but if the whole thing isn't financially better than just planting trees or making batteries, then I would think it wouldn't proceed) 2) maybe they will force companies to do this in the future no matter what the cost is and the government might subsidise the permit holder (but that is just speculation).
