Around 20% of new builds in Europe currently are Hybrid drive over 100GT apparently, it really becomes a commercial decision when re powering older boats or trawlers etc, Lithium storage per KWH has dropped substantially since I first signed the contract on the drives and storage nearly 12 months ago now on our new build.
I was going to covert our old 62 Selene we sold in 2023, I did the Electrical Engineering and costings at the time on 200 KW a side of storage and 2x 150 KWH gensets and 1 by 50kwh and sold the plans and engineering with the boat, the new owner plans on doing it when the old 2x300 hp Cummings die which will probably be never lol, I logged over 38000 NM on her in 15 years Hoodie and only put 5000 hrs on the Cummings,s, with only minor maintenance on the mains over the journey, the cost of the Drives and Lithium Storage and Gensets in 2022 was $440k at the time, and I never really drilled down on installation cost as we had decided to go with our new build that we are finally floating in currently but not steaming anywhere yet lol !!!! after 3 years of planning and building in Turkey.
We hope to be on our way by mid February if all soon to be completed sea trials and shakedowns go well.
Hybrid drives and lithium storage on your trawler would be worth it Hoodie if you plan on doing the Pacific in her and long term remote anchorages in the pacific as the ability to run all house services and HVAC alone on Hybrid gensets alone is priceless imo, I fitted over 100 KWH of Lithium Storage for house and HVAC supply and Hybrid Genset operations onboard the Selene in 2021 and that was one of the best upgrades I did on the Selene, if you go that Road I went with Victron Quattro 3 phase system x 3 at 8000watt per Quattro 48 volt and that system operated flawlessly right through Covid with us living on board and continues to with our old Selene currently doing a circumnavigation.
