My thoughts on the statement made to NBN news by Lucy Wicks are as follows:-
Lucy Wicks is a candidate for the seat of Robertson, her only function in public life at this point is to try and defeat Gordon Reid and regain the seat she lost in 2022. She will say and do anything to achieve that. If she thinks being anti PEP11 is her best chance of being elected, that's what she will be.
Lucy Wicks, Dave Sharma, Trent Zimmerman, and Jason Falinksi were all on the public record in 2021/22 as being against PEP11. They have have two things in common, they were all Liberal MPs, and they all lost their seats despite PEP11 having been cancelled by Scott Morrison.
I think Lucy Wicks is a real problem for the LNP. Robertson is a must win seat, and if she is the best talent that the Liberals can muster up, Gordon Reid is probably well placed to keep his seat.
So what is Lucy's role in PEP11 on the off chance she was elected?
Short answer - none, she has no role, Lucy Wicks is not in the room without her Happy Clapper ally Scomo.
Why?
The Resources Minister is a National Party portfolio under the coalition agreement.
NOPTA applications are an administrative decision which are required to be made in accordance with the law.
No politician holds a right of veto on a NOPTA application decision.
Should the LNP win the election, one of two things will happen.
1. The new Resources Minister will override the Husic decision and make it in accordance with the law, or
2. The new Resources Minister will allow the case to proceed where Justice Jackson will decide.
FUN FACT - When Lucy Wicks was rejected by the people of Robertson, she gained employment in the office of the then Member for Cook, one Scott Morrison.
