    Workers wanted for mine expansion

    By Josh Bavas

A metals company with two mines in north Queensland says it is looking for 100 new workers as it expands operations.

Conquest Mining's Pajingo Gold Mine, about 70 kilometres south of Charters Towers, currently employees about 200 workers and produces up to 55,000 ounces of gold each year.

Underground mining for ore is expected to begin at a mine site at Twin Hills, west of Mackay, next year.

Recruitment officer Clayton Cook says the company wants north Queensland-based workers.

"They're everything from geologists through to ... service crew, trade positions, fitters and electricians, production drillers - the usual mining roles across the board," he said.

Mr Cook says it is a considerable expansion of staff.

"The Pajingo operation has around about 200 staff," he said.

"Twin Hills is actually a greenfield site where it doesn't have many staff currently and will only have around about 50 staff in total.

"It's a satellite operation of Pajingo."
