Like in every downturn/recession I have ever seen the truth only comes out after the fact. Like theives in the night you don't see them coming..but you sure as hell know you have been robbed once they are gone. No one accepts responsibility or accountability. It was all unforseeable they will tell you.
Don't worry the economy is strong and your jobs are safe.
A number of years ago my then employer took us all out to lunch at a rather flash restaraunt(some 50 of us). He stood there after we had our fill of oysters, caviar and champagne saying " The company is in a sound financial position and your jobs are secure". We all applauded.
I remember having this gut feeling at the time "This feels like the last supper". Two weeks later the redundancy notices were handed out. Well trust your gut I say.
