If it is only for a few weeks work, I would say it will depend on whether it is a buyer's (your employer) or a seller's (i.e you) market.
Why don't you ask them straight out for an answer, but then again if you are desperate for a job, even for just a few weeks, your bargaining position may not be that strong.
Some employers like to call that "flexibility work practices" :-)
