I think it will depend on whether you have declared yourself a non resident for tax purposes. If you have then you cannot be a trustee of your fund, and must transfer the trusteeship into a large superannuation company. The fund still remains yours. That is according to the ATO website. As to stopping contributions, you would not be able to make any anyway if you were a non resident, because you would not meet the work test. However if you chose not to become non resident, and made annual tax returns and paid tax on your earnings, then you would still remain a trustee, and could make contributions.
I'm fairly sure this is the case, but will stand corrected if not.
