    Interesting Thread.

Stats like these are notoriously difficult to gather and point to a big downfall of taking qualitative research methodologies to formulate quatitative outcomes.

respondent's answers are only their vision of the truth and not a true and accurate picture of the story.

If a pregnant person feels like thay are missing out on training because of their condition. A business (was an operations consultant) will usually make the decision based on what is best for the company - who will be available, what will be short, medium and long term benefit to the business.

one person feels it is about them - one person sees it about the business. The choice becomes not personal even though one person interprets it that way. Can't fault businesses for being focused first on their productivity.

As an aside, I now work in a business that is purely contract based (international education): every employee in every organisation in the world (7000+ schools) starts on a two year contract. If schools are not renewing your contract for some reason they will let you know 6 months in advance so you can enter the recruitment circuit and get another job. All the recruitment happens in that same 3 month block for every person in this system - thats 1000's of people.

Pregnancy will usually mean one of two things - if you get pregnant and can work until the end of your contract you would be unlikely to get a renewal. If you get preganant and the school would like to keep you on, they suspend your contract, give you leave and then you return to finish off your contract after you are able to.

The world wide recruitment of all faculty goes though a handful of agencies. Break contract and you generally will never work in international education again. Recruitment agencies won't touch you and they run the job fairs.

Sounds harsh, but the calibre and committment of faculty is generally excellent.

    anyway,

don't unquestioningly believe the stats, they're tricky buggers.
