From the announcement:-
"Unlike
most of Australia’s Nickel Laterite deposits, Wingellina is more correctly termed a Nickel Limonite
deposit, exhibiting different mineralogical characteristics and associations. The deposit is typified as a
high iron (approx. 48% Fe203), low Magnesium (approx. 1.7% Mg) moderate grade (0.95-1.5% nickel
and 0.05% - 0.10% cobalt) oxide deposit formed by intense weathering of ultramafic rock units of the
Wingellina layered intrusive complex."
Be interesting to find out what the advantages are in processing a limonite type deposit rather than the Murrin style laterite. I think low Mg reduces processing but not sure on other factors. I guess these will be discovered in scoping and feasibility studies.
Looks like biggest issues are still the remote location and land rights, but these may be less significant when we are talking billions of dollars worth of nickel. Just need the China story to roll on for another 5 yrs to make this a real winner.
