"I care for all adults sustaining burn injury in South Australia, Northern Territory, western New South Wales and western Victoria over an area of some 2.4 million square kilometres. I run a statewide education service for all those in metropolitan and rural areas that may encounter burn injuries as carers. I head the Burns Assessment Team, Australia's only mobile burn response unit designed for the emergency management of large groups of burn injuries in disaster scenarios. This team was dispatched to Darwin in the aftermath of the 2002 Bali Bombings for which I received Membership of the Order of Australia (AM). I led the unit, along with Sheila Kavanagh (my chief nurse and best friend) through verification with the American Burn Association/American College of Surgeons, at the time we were the only unit outside the US to hold this verification (2009). We remain the only unit outside North America, having re-verified at the end of 2012. In February 2014, I and two specialist plastic surgeons at the RAH, Yugesh Caplash and Marcus Wagstaff, received approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to use my BTM dermal skin substitute for Free Flap donor site reconstruction"
