Here are Tim Cahill's top ten moments:

    1. Cahill made his debut for the Australian national team on 30 March 2004 in a friendly against South Africa - his first of a total of 107 senior appearances. Later that year he would finish second-highest scorer at the 2004 OFC Nations Cup, his competitive debut a precursor to his six goals.

    2. Success in the OFC Nations Cup put Australia on the path to the World Cup. Cahill was part of the side which famously defeated Uruguay in a two-legged playoff  after a penalty shootout in Sydney.

    3. At the Socceroos' first visit to the World Cup in more than 30 years, Cahill became the first Australian to score in one when he equalised during the opening group game with Japan. He wasn't finished there - he grabbed another to put the Socceroos ahead and was named man of the match, another Australian World Cup first.

    4. Cahill began to make a habit of scoring the 'important' goals, doing so against Qatar and Japan in crucial qualifiers which helped Australia over the line to South Africa 2010. Despite a straight red card in the group D opener v Germany, he would redeem himself in the third with a goal against Serbia.

    5. Cahill was once again key to the Socceroos' qualifying hopes ahead of the 2014 edition of the world game's biggest competition, scoring three goals during the campaign to lock in his own - and Australia's - third-consecutive World Cup appearance.

    6. The long-time Evertonian would become Australia's all-time highest goalscorer after making the scoresheet twice against Ecuador in a pre-World Cup friendly. His double couldn't prevent a 4-3 loss, but it would take his tally to 31 goals, cruising past Damian Mori's mark of 29.

    7. Cahill's opener against Chile in Australia's opening group match of the 2014 World Cup saw him achive the feat of scoring at three consecutive World Cups.

    8. That goal. In Brazil, Cahill also delivered what is considered to be one of the greatest World Cup goals when he got on the end of a deep cross and lashed a left-footed volley in off the underside of the bar against the Netherlands.

    9. In 2015, Australia staged the AFC Asian Cup and would go on to win the competition, defeating South Korea in the final. While Cahill didn't score in the final, he claimed three across the tournament including a brace against China to send Australia to the semis.

    10. Cahill appeared at his fourth World Cup in Russia this year, with much speculation as to whether the Socceroos great could join the likes of Pele and score at four straight. The shining light of the Socceroos faded away rather than burning up, only making an appearance from the bench in a 2-0 loss to Peru in the must-win final group match.
