As I understand it, RECCE's compounds do disrupt the cell wall. It works where the internal pressure of the cell is greater than the expernal pressure, resulting in the cell more or less exploding. Fortunately this is a property that applies to many types of bacteria and viruses, but not normal body cells (or at least not blood cells).
