World Has Realized That Sharon Is the Major Threat to Region: FM Spokesman TEHRAN, April 25 (MNA) – On Sunday Iran declared it has now become quite clear that Israel, specifically its Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, is the major threat and the source of insecurity in the region. An earlier statement by Sharon declared an Israeli military buildup is needed to counter Iran.
This announcement by Sharon at this juncture in time comes as international pressure is being brought to bear on the Zionist regime for its stockpiling of nuclear warheads and other weapons of mass destruction (WMD), Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told a press conference.
Now that the idea of a WMD-free Middle East is gaining momentum, Israel is defying international public opinion and evading questions surrounding its nuclear arsenal.
Military experts estimate that Israel has more than 200 nuclear warheads. Tel Aviv has so far refused to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Asefi further cited the enhancement of ties between Tehran and the European Union as another reason behind Sharon’s accusation.
Angry about Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi’s fruitful talks last week with top European officials regarding regional issues, the EU’s pledge to support Iran in its dealings with the United Nations nuclear watchdog, and also a mutual commitment between Iran and the European Union, both Sharon and his mentor, President George W. Bush, are making groundless charges against Iran.
