Guilty ( closet lover ) - mine is a chinese elm about 20 years old now - long story but I trim once or twice yearly, have never had any knowledge but I keep it in a "basin" bonsai ceramic bowl which is placed in a large plastic basin about 50 cms deep filled with water - in other words - continually moist.
The tree is about 20 cms high now and spread at the bottom is about 15cm tapering to 2cm at the top.
