There is a procedure between different countries' Patent offices under which, when a patent is granted in one of the countries (US), the patentee can request the Patent office in another country (Australia) to give full faith and credit to the novelty/inventiveness examination from the country where the patent has been granted (US). Thus the Australian Patent Office will only conduct a formalities examination and accept the USPTO novelty/inventiveness examination.
