Everyone lives on their own, so you still need twice as many houses.
Also, while overall population is trending down. People are emigrating from crap-holes to glorious places like Australia, (i.e quality) so desirable locations can still experience growth even when over all the trend in population is down.
Finally, investing in 2050. Who cares? Any number of things could happen between now and then.
