    roaminoz you can be sure there will be a superbug appearing but it won't be created through natural selection.

    The current population growth trajectory is ripe for an extinction event. It wouldn't be more certain if it wasn't planned.

    As a farmer, any disruption in the supply of the things I need to produce grain eg nitrogen from China or the US, phosphate from Morroco, herbicides from China, tractors from the US, tyres from Malaysia, potash from Russia, diesel from Singapore, and I cannot produce grain. Just one of these things becomes limiting and the world has not got long til the pipeline runs dry. 20 years ago we were far more self reliant to produce something marketable. Now we are totally dependent on far away places to produce anything.

    In fact the point of the year where the least grain is left before the bulk of the world's next crop comes off the field is around June/July. The cynic in me says that that is probably when the next superbug will 'appear'.
