Indian prices up
Uttam Galva Steels Ltd., India's second largest galvanized steel manufacturer, on Thursday said that it has increased the prices of all its products in the domestic market by Rs2,500 per ton with effect from Feb. 22. The increase in prices will compensate for rising logistics and input costs.
Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd., India's third-biggest producer, said that it would increase prices of galvanized steel for a second time this year as demand recovers. Prices for March delivery will increase by as much as Rs1,750 to Rs36,750 rupees a ton. JSW raised prices by as much as Rs1,000 a ton last month.
JSW produces 800,000 tons of galvanized steel per year and sells 20% of its total production in India. Galvanized steel is used mainly by construction companies and automobile manufacturers.
