US$9.2B takeover offer made by Barrick will create (if successful) the largest Gold mining company in the world. Merged Company will have 149.8M ounces in proven Gold reserves and 6542M pounds of copper reserves with Annual Gold production of 8.4M ounces.
Placer Dome up over 20% (+$4.40 to $26.02) today however a rival bid could make things very interesting.
