No problems with caterpillars this year. Normally they have a good go at the potato tops. Had good luck with the peas, they can normally be prone to an attack of mildew. I'm not sure if it's because I didn't plant them against the fence this year and air circulates around them better or because of the drier winter, hence, less moisture build up. Which ever way, the peas produced.
BUT, the damn gutless 'waxy' Perth soil is peeving me off, big time :((
Garden bed got a good dose of a blended manure about a month ago, some Sulfate of Potash and Blood and Bone. Did I do something wrong?
Went to plant some bulbs I forgot in the fridge(better late than never, sowing did say autumn/winter). It only rained a few days ago after some huge downpours recently and the soil is 'behaving' like it hasn't seen moisture before, repelling :( Cheated and gave it a dose of wetting agent.
Anyone have any ideas? Mix in some hay maybe? Something to keep the soil 'fibrous' to stop it compacting???
