psi81, let's not forget the gasification chamber works at a negative pressure to outside the chamber, therefore to my understanding, debris would have initially been 'sucked into' the chamber. Only an even smaller amount of contaminant would have escaped than you suggest through the reverberation of 'inside and outside pressure' equalising.
