As I've said before he was STUPID to open his mouth re: the inquiry. We can get the same result by pushing a narrative via diplomatic channels. And I suspect you are correct on the HK visas - Aus can achieve this without a trumpet and fanfare - delivering the message through the correct channels with the right level of noise.
Nothing is to be gained by beating your chest - except for striking a chord with part of his target audience.
