I don't believe it will happen and aren't worried about it
I believe that Bega is very interested is buying mgc from their full year result conference call.
If they don't bid I believe others will
My concern is farmers want a crazy price and won't sell stopping it ... in saying that if anyone can pull it off Bega chairman can as he is a dairy farmer and he gets farmers. He will likely offer cash and script or given garner option
It isn't end of the world if no bid as 2019 earnings for mgc will be better from cost out so they shoukd be able to match competitors
Fonterra won't be offering the 40 cents bonus next year in my opinion so playing field closer
Finally be aware a lot of the farners on this blog can vote so their view doesn't count on what mgc should do
Remember only wet shareholders can vote on anything. To be a wet shareholder you need to supply. Most of farmers on this blog don't supply so don't have say so their view doesn't count
If they did want to buy back I would expect the board to all leave and farners left to fight a class action which would force mgc into bankruptcy
So farmers can talk tough but they run risk of losing their entire value also if they try to buy back
They will have no income also as nobody would pick up their milk
So much to their tough talking they would be affected more than us so as a result it won't happen
I am staying long and are optimistic new mgnt are going on the right direction we just need to get through 2018 with around 2 bn litres and go into 2019 in much better shape
