PepinNini Minerals targets nickel and copper in
Musgrave Province drilling program
PepinNini Minerals Limited (ASX Code ‘PNN’) will target two areas with high prospectivity
for nickel and copper with its maiden drilling program, starting this week, in the Musgrave
Province in South Australia’s far north-west.
"We have a drilling rig and support vehicles on site and a field camp has been
established,” PepinNini Managing Director, Mr Norman Kennedy, said.
“The drilling program will comprise at least 17 boreholes targeting Voisey’s Bay style
mineralization (layered mafic- massive nickel copper sulphide) and will investigate
bedrock conductors identified from helicopter and ground electromagnetic surveys,
elevated nickel and copper grades obtained from surface samples collected from
gossanous outcrops and conceptual geological targets interpreted from magnetic data.
“The program has been awarded funding of up to $128,250 towards direct drilling costs
under the South Australian Government’s PACE initiative.
“A clearance survey conducted by the Traditional Owners of the area last month
approved all proposed borehole sites for drilling,” he said.
Musgrave Province Project
PepinNini has a 100% interest in one granted exploration licence and three exploration
licence applications covering approximately 6,761 square kilometres of the Musgrave
Province of South Australia.
The current exploration activities are focused on the investigation of two prominent
magnetic features located near Mt Moulden and Mt Harcus within EL 3368 which are
interpreted as representing ultramafic/mafic intrusions and are considered to be
prospective for nickel copper sulphide mineralisation similar to that at Voisey’s Bay in
Canada.
Nickel copper sulphide deposits are typically very conductive and produce a strong
electromagnetic (EM) response. The deposits are also generally associated with
ultramafic or mafic intrusives which produce strong magnetic anomalies.
A helicopter HoisTEM survey was completed between late September and mid
November, 2005 with 1,378 line kilometres being flown across the Mt Moulden magnetic
feature and 1,407 line kilometres at the Mt Harcus feature.
A ground TEM survey was also completed at Mt Moulden and Mt Harcus between late
September, and mid November 2005. Overall a total of 806 stations of inloop TEM data
were acquired comprising 71.3 line kilometres on 23 lines.
Field reconnaissance surveys have also been undertaken and included field mapping
and geochemical sampling.
Data from the geophysical and reconnaissance surveys have been processed and
assessed. Bedrock conductors, possibly representing mineralized sulphide bodies, have
been identified from the EM data and elevated nickel (max. 1,015ppm) and copper (max.
791ppm) contents were assayed in surface samples collected from gossanous and mafic
outcrops discovered during the field reconnaissance program.
The information in this report that relates to Exploration Results is based on information compiled by
Norman Kennedy BSc MAusIMM. Norman Kennedy is the Managing Director of PepinNini Minerals Limited
and has sufficient experience which is relevant to the style of mineralisation and type of deposit under
consideration to qualify as a Competent Person as defined in the 2004 edition of the “Australasian Code for
Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves”.
