9703yn, my beef if not with people who do well because they work hard and take entrepreneurial risks that yield great rewards; quite the reverse. They are the driving muscle of our economy!
My beef is with the affluent leaners and loafers, the sharlatans, wealth bludgers and opportunists who are gaming the system while enjoying all that it offers and putting nothing back and including people who have become multi-millionaires by avoiding tax altogether. These people depend on government decisions such as FBT concessions, concessions for corporations, superannuation concessions for people who will never need superannuation etc. etc.
Get that hideously unfair and wasteful government spending under control and we'd have the revenue needed to fund public infrastructure of the kind that even Jeff Kennett has finally realised is essential - metro rail!
Ponder this, when we buy shares [which battlers NEVER do] why don't we pay GST [clue is in brackets a few words back]? Compliments of John Howard, we have a system designed to fuel greed that is powered by ponzi economic theory - more people, more growth, greater demand, higher prices - those who own property gain at the expense of those who do not [eg. the asset poor such as school leavers].
