When Wayne Swan saved our bacon with the Woomera excuse would the FIRB do the same to a non state owned entity.
The Yes camp could argue that-
How could we refuse China our biggest trading partner and then say yes to a non state owned entity with out offending China.
The upgrading of Woomera after the closing of the refugee camp has now seen more focus on Woomera as a genuine strategic defence facility.
The No camp could argue that-
The Woomera Defence Area (the size of England) and 160kms from Prominent Hill could hardly be used as an excuse to refuse an overture from another suitor.
Is Woomera really an important defence facility that could be comprimised by a non Australian entity.
I remember at the time of the Minmetals takeover that some wag posted-
"if you left PH with a waterbag and tried to get to Woomera you would be dead before you got close"
