That is comical. The side that experiences night, is it light or dark? When the ISS takes a shot like that they do 2 things, they point it deep into space and away from the earth and moon, and they wait till they are on the night side of the earth.
The stars are only visible on film or digital image in an environment where there is less light. Light is information, and if you overload the information inout it becomes problematic to maintain the integrity of the extremes without some form of compression.
