How "on earth" are you supposed to practice landing a module on the moon with 0.17 times the gravity?
The purpose of the testing wasnt to land on an analogue moon, it was to practice the controls.
The moon landing was, again, a first ever. Like all firsts, there is no practice go. There is alot of preparation. Then there is the attempt.
The first guys to fly squirrel suits down ravines, as you would have seen many times before on youtube, didnt have practice runs. They got used to the suits at high altitude and away from obstacles, they got used to base jumping, they attempted flying near walls, then one day one of them just went and flew through a ravine.
Same the first guy to land in a net without a parachute. You cant "practice" it. Practicing is doing, until it is done it cant be repeated to perfect.
