Happy New Year everyone.
Rarely post, but regular HC reader for years.
I've been married to my bestie for 31 years. I can honestly say we have never ever had a full on blue in all that time. Even when we lost everything (well over 500K) due to a dodgy business partner, we stuck tight and never apportioned blame - we were in it together). We have 3 great kids all well educated and "adjusted" and now expecting to be first time grandparents. My eldest told just before her wedding couple years ago how the kids (who were youngsters at the time we went under)could see how their Mum & Dad never allowed our money issues to negatively infiltrate the family unit. I always thought we had shielded them from that, yet in their wisdom they had picked up on what was happening - but her comment at her wedding speech bought everyone, especially me to tears. She made the comment that "money does not bring happiness, and her parents bad luck had been the best education they could have received in life - how when the chips were down, we battled through". In hindsight we are now most proud of that - we staved off brankruptcy, I reinvented my career, and although not "wealthy" now, we have what we need - each other and a great family unit. And that makes me "rich". Maybe I've actually been lucky in life. Many of our friends are 2nd & 3rd time round now - some with millions in the bank, but very unhappy - with 2 announcing splits in the past 3 weeks alone. Have I given up things for my soul mate - absolutely - but so has she for me. Take care out there.
