Another top post GE. To just let people know a little detail. The cathode ( positive electrode) pictured there is the polycrystalline, not the single crystal. You can tell because of the size.
It’s pictured with comment of ‘high nickel and cobalt free materials’ so in context it looks like they might’ve accomplished that. And if they’re achieved that in a polycrystalline cathode then they’d be trialling it on single crystal you’d think.
It might also mean that rather than a NCM532, or a NCM622 compound that they might have even produced a NCM811 ( in polycrystalline at least).
The numbers refer the the ratio out of 10 of the cathode , in order . So a NCM811 the Ni would be 8/10 parts ,the Co 1/10 ,the Mn 1/10. (NCA the same idea).
Apart from higher capacity improvements ,because the DPMG can use Class 2 Ni ( lower grade). It would leverage that cost advantage because they’d be using more of it in their cathode.
If they’ve removed the cobalt of course it’s a different compound NM? 532,622,811?
That would also reduce the cost but also the environmental/ political issues of mining cobalt.
