since PM Whitlam bravely renewed diplomatic contact with China in 1973, both sides of govt have carefully curated a respectful, symbiotic relationship that has had huge benefits for Australia.
a high point in this relationship may have come but a few short years ago with the formal signing of a trade agreement and the Chinese leader addressing parliament on the floor of the House of Representatives. A quite extraordinary historical scene.
