I think it makes no sense. People don't have many choices from a supermarket viewpoint, but they do have choices. People get upset by these positions and exercise choice. Although I don't agree with the position of councils on the change of date for citizenship ceremonies, the people getting citizenship don't have choices. Woolworths could create long term badwill, but I don't think the people who make these statements care, they want to ingratiate themselves with the echo chamber they belong in.
