it would also be fair if all the ( mainly ) tradies receiving cash payments paid their fair share of income tax.
There is a huge black market economy going on due to cash. Whereas people like me who receive fortnightly PAYG statements with income tax automatically paid are effectively subsiding the lifestyle of people who transact in cash and avoid tax. Moving to a cashless society would reap many millions dollars in extra unpaid tax that is being avoided.
