To answer your question about "surplus volume", -- if you have your calculator ready: you start at the "indicative price" and you put that number of units into your calculator, then you add all the numbers of units at are on top of that on the sell side.
From that figure, you subtract all the units that are available on the buy side down to the indicative price.
The remainder will either be "positive" [which is a surplus], -- or the number will be negative.
It is a good indicator if traders want the stock at that price this morning or if are they prepared to wait until later.
