It does sound strange Mark. I asked her about the time and place of the presentation in London and she told me no one is going to London. I queried her and said that I was fairly certain that there was a presentation happening in London. She replied saying that it was her that would have booked the flights and she hadn't booked any.
As you said, if there was a personal reason for not attending perhaps someone else could have gone. But no, it has been cancelled. Very mysterious. Perhaps some hard headed negotiations in the offing.
